The Province of Manitoba has issued the following advisories for the Plum Coulee Sunset Beach:
ALGAE ADVISORY
(Until the end of the swimming season)
If large amounts of green scum are visible in the water, please take the following precautions:
• Avoid swimming or contact with the water.
• Do not drink the water (boiling or chlorination will NOT make the water safe).
• Prevent pets or livestock from drinking the water along the shoreline, as this could be fatal to animals.
• Do not eat fish from this lake that appear unhealthy.
Blue-green algae, which can cause illnesses such as diarrhea, stomach cramps, and eye and skin irritations have been found at this beach in the past.
BEACH ADVISORY
(Updates will be posted as they become available)
High levels of bacteria have occurred at this beach this season. These high levels usually last for short periods of time. Although most swimmers are not expected to become ill, the possibility of illness increases with higher levels of bacteria.
To reduce the risk of illness, it is recommended that beach users take the following precautions:
• Avoid swallowing lake water.
• Wash your hands before handling food.
• Avoid swimming with an open cut or wound, or if you are experiencing illness.
